Frequently asked questions

What hidden data can a photo contain?

Typical EXIF metadata includes the exact GPS coordinates where the photo was taken, the camera make and model, the date and time, and the software used to edit it. Anyone you send the original file to can read all of it.

How does the scrubbing work?

Your photo is re-encoded on a canvas right in your browser, which naturally strips every metadata block. Afterwards the tool re-reads the output file and verifies that no EXIF data remains before you download it.

Is my photo uploaded anywhere?

No. Inspection and scrubbing both happen locally in this page. Your photo never leaves your device — which is exactly the point of a privacy tool.

Which formats are supported? Will quality suffer?

JPEG, PNG and WebP. (iPhone HEIC photos are not supported — convert to JPEG first.) JPEGs are re-encoded at 92% quality, visually identical to the original; PNG and WebP are re-encoded losslessly.
